Common signs

  • Stiffness at the back of the heel first thing in the morning
  • Pain when you start walking or running that eases, then returns
  • A tender or swollen bump where the shoe back rubs
  • Pain going up stairs or hills

How we help

We assess your calf strength and flexibility, how your ankle moves and how your shoes sit on your heel. Most plans start with a gradual tendon-loading program, footwear changes and short-term heel lifts. Shockwave therapy is an option for pain that has lasted several months.

Seek care right away if

You felt a sudden snap or pop at the back of the ankle, or you cannot push off or rise onto your toes. These can be signs of a tendon rupture.
